Study & Work International supports internationalisation of public and church universities in Bavaria. The two primary aims of the project are to build an international work placements portal for Bavarian students at all types of higher education institutions (universities and universities of applied sciences) and to operate a summer school for foreign students. The project also drives internationalisation of the dual study scheme in Bavaria, e.g. by advertising to students in other countries and providing advice on organising an international placement to students on the dual scheme.
The project is based at hochschule dual, as this provides an optimal way for existing networks to be used by the universities of applied sciences and Bavarian businesses.
The dual study scheme is an initiative of all state and church run universities for applied sciences in Bavaria. Its aim is to make a comprehensive range of academic courses of study available that can also be done under the dual study scheme. Almost 1,200 businesses currently cooperate with universities to provide the dual study programmes. All of these companies can be found on the hochschule dual database.

vbw Association of Bavarian Industry
The vbw – Vereinigung der bayerischen Wirtschaft e. V. (Association of Bavarian Industry), is the voluntary, cross-sector and central interest group for the Bavarian economy and represents 126 Bavarian employers and trade associations, as well as 40 individual companies. As the Bavarian representative to the Federal Association of German Employers and the Federal Association of German Industry, it represents the common economic, social and socio-political interests.
“To compete in the global market, Bavarian businesses are placing increasing value on employees with international experience. We are therefore supporting the ‘Study & Work International project – explore the world’. It actively supports academic growth in the Free State of Bavaria by searching for high-quality work placements abroad. The summer schools for foreign students also benefit the Bavarian economy. International networking strengthens the ability of our businesses to compete.”
Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts
The Bavarian State Ministry of Education, Science and the Arts is responsible for schools and universities in Bavaria. It has an internationalisation programme to support the nine state universities, 17 state universities for applied sciences, six state art academies as well as a whole host of other church-run universities with the internationalisation of research and teaching in Bavaria.
“As the Minister of Education for Bavaria I believe that both theory and practice are important and are integral to a successful education. With the fast pace of globalisation in our world, the demands on both these areas will become more complex: International work experience and intercultural awareness are key qualifications for the 21st century. The “Study & Work International” initiative supports our students in gaining these key qualifications during the course of their studies”.
